500 red metal cards: the Founder Edition story
· 6 min read · NFC, Founder Edition
Why we capped the first run at 500 numbered metal cards, how the UK manufacturing process works, and how to get one before they sell out.
Why 500?
Five hundred is small enough to feel genuinely scarce, large enough to seed a real Welsh business community, and exactly the production-run sweet spot for our UK manufacturing partner. Every Founder Edition card is numbered 001-500, engraved with the holder's username, and posted on 31 August 2026 - the day before standard cards open up.
What makes a Founder card different
- Anodised recycled aluminium body - heavier, colder, more satisfying to hand over
- Cymru Red top finish with a brushed, fingerprint-resistant texture
- Engraved username on the front (yours, permanently)
- Sequential edition number (001-500) on the reverse
- Premium kraft sleeve packaging with vegetable-ink print
- Lifetime profile included - no monthly fee for the linc.cymru/yourname profile that the card points at
The standard four-colour lineup that ships in August uses the same NFC technology, but on a recycled-PVC card body and without the engraving or numbered packaging.
Manufactured in the UK
Every Founder card is finished by a small specialist NFC manufacturer in the English Midlands. We chose them specifically because:
- Local shipping keeps the carbon cost of every card low
- Quality control is hands-on, not outsourced
- The chip standard (NTAG216) they use has the best read range and longest field life on the market
Cards are programmed at finishing time with each holder's unique linc.cymru profile URL. Every card is then tested on three different phones before it leaves the workshop.
Sustainability
Aluminium is one of the most recycled materials on Earth. When (eventually) you stop using your Founder card, our free take-back programme will recycle the metal back into the supply chain. The chip is also recoverable.
How to get one
Founder Edition cards are reserved as part of the Creator tier subscription bundle - you sign up to Creator (£8/mo), the card is added to your first order, and you're billed once for the bundle. After 31 August 2026, the standard four-colour cards take over.
Order your Founder card or view all tiers.
After 500
Once the 500 are gone, they're gone. We will never reprint the Founder Edition - that's the whole point of "Founder". If you want a numbered piece of linc.cymru history (and a card that genuinely stands out at every meeting you attend), now is the moment.
